We take a bus from Cusco at 4:30 AM to Mollepata (3,400 m), where we have a traditional breakfast, and then continue on to Soraypampa (3,900 m). From this point, we begin our ascent to Humantay Lagoon, hiking for approximately 3 hours through spectacular Andean landscapes until reaching the lagoon at an impressive 4,300 m above sea level.
You will be able to take part in a brief Inca ceremony of thanks to the mountain spirits and marvel at the azure glacial waters when you arrive.
After that, we start the two-hour descent back to Mollepata, where you can enjoy a well-earned Andean lunch.
The return to Cusco offers a perfect opportunity to reflect on the day’s breathtaking scenery, cultural immersion, and spiritual connection with the Andes. At elevations higher than 4,000 meters, oxygen is available during the tour.
You will return to Cusco between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
The trek to Humantay Lagoon usually takes around 3 hours to ascend from the trailhead near Soraypampa to the lagoon itself, with an additional 2 hours for the descent.
Humantay Lagoon is situated at an altitude of approximately 4300 meters above sea level.
The trek to Humantay Lagoon is considered moderately challenging due to the high altitude and steep terrain, but it is achievable for most people with a reasonable level of fitness.
It is recommended to bring sturdy hiking shoes, warm clothing layers, sunscreen, a hat, plenty of water, snacks, and a camera to capture the stunning scenery.
Due to the high altitude of Humantay Lagoon, visitors should be aware of the risk of altitude sickness and take precautions such as staying hydrated and allowing time for acclimatization.
