Exploring the Rainbow Mountain

Impressive views towards the mountain of the Rainbow and Glacier of the Andes, where this beautiful natural formation is located in its 5030 meters over sea level. We begin this tour in the city of Cusco at 4:00 am.

In the morning, we travel by bus for about 2 hours to the town of Cusipata where we will have breakfast before heading 1 more hour to the first hiking point located at 4,400 meters above sea level. Here we start to climb slowly, walking for about 3 hours, up to the viewpoint at 5,030 m.a.s.l. From here, you\'ll have an amazing view of Rainbow Mountain, and the beautiful Red Valley, which is red due to the high mineral content in the region. You will also enjoy incredible views of the snow covered peaks that surround the area.

After enjoying the incredible views we start our walk back down—we will complete the descent in about 1.5 hours—to the starting point, where we board the bus now to make our way to Cusipata for lunch. Returning to Cusco at (approx.) 4pm, after lunch.

The hiking path goes from 4,400 to 5,030 m.a.s.l., and it is likely that you will suffer from some of the symptoms of altitude sickness: soroche or headaches. That’s why we bring oxygen along to help participants if they get into trouble.
