Early Morning Pick-Up: Your adventure begins with a private pick-up from your Cusco hotel around 6:00 AM, setting off on an unforgettable journey.
Scenic Drive: Embark on a 7-hour, 200+ km drive through the breathtaking Peruvian Andes. Enjoy stops at Lake Huacapay, the ancient Ninamarca archaeological site (pre-Inca chullpas), and the charming colonial bridges of Paucartambo.
Mountain Passes: Cross Huachuqasa Pass (4,100 m / 13,451 ft) and Acjanaco Pass (3,550 m / 11,647 ft), the gateway to Manu National Park. Watch the landscape transform from stark highland plateaus to misty cloud forests and lush jungle valleys.
Wildlife and Flora: Enter the biodiversity hotspot of Manu. Spot Peru’s national bird, the vibrant Gallito de las Rocas, and possibly the elusive spectacled bear. Marvel at cascading waterfalls, giant ferns, orchids, butterflies, monkeys, and tropical birds like toucans, quetzales, and parrots.
Arrival at Guadalupe Lodge: Reach Guadalupe Lodge (560 m / 1,837 ft) in the late afternoon. Receive a warm Amazonian welcome and settle into your private room.
Exploration and Relaxation: Explore the loop trail around the lodge, watching for capuchin monkeys, blue and yellow macaws, woodpeckers, and oropendolas in the canopy.
Evening: End the day with a delicious dinner at the lodge, falling asleep to the soothing sounds of the jungle.
Early Morning Start: Wake to the jungle symphony at Guadalupe Lodge with a delicious breakfast as the sun rises over the canopy.
Journey to Atalaya Port: At 6:00 AM, board a land vehicle for a scenic drive to Atalaya Port, passing vibrant tropical plantations of papaya, banana, cacao, and coca.
River Exploration: Step into a motorboat and glide down the Madre de Dios River for 1 hour, immersed in exotic landscapes, towering trees, and the gentle flow of the Amazon waters.
Machuhuasi Lagoon: Arrive at the serene Machuhuasi Lagoon, a hidden gem wrapped in dense vegetation and teeming with biodiversity. Walk the trails along the shore, spotting hoatzins, horned screamers, hawks, herons, capybaras, kingfishers, and monkeys. Your guide will share the medicinal secrets of native plants used by indigenous communities.
Lunch by the Lake: Savor a freshly prepared lunch on the tranquil shores, surrounded by peaceful waters and the hum of the rainforest. Then return by boat to Atalaya Port and back to Guadalupe Lodge in the early afternoon.

Parrot Clay Lick Excursion: At dawn, board a motorboat and glide to the famous Parrot Clay Lick, one of Manu National Park’s greatest wildlife spectacles. Weather permitting, witness over 15 species of parrots and macaws flock to the 50-meter-high riverbank, their vibrant colors lighting up the sky as they consume clay and gravel to aid digestion—a mesmerizing natural ritual.
Return to the Lodge: Boat back to Guadalupe Lodge for a hearty breakfast. Pack your belongings and prepare to depart.
Visit Wildlife Rescue Center: Stop at a family-run Wildlife Rescue Center deep in the Manu Biosphere Reserve. Meet rescued animals, learn about conservation efforts, and see rehabilitation in action for monkeys, birds, and other Amazon species.
Journey Back to Cusco: Begin the scenic 7-hour drive back to Cusco, retracing the route through cloud forests, over mountain passes, and across the Andes. Arrive around 5:00 PM, with transfers to your hotel.
Essentials: Lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing, a rain jacket, and waterproof boots. Gear: A camera with a zoom lens, binoculars for bird watching, and a flashlight for exploring caves. Health and Comfort: Sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and personal medications. Don’t forget a reusable water bottle and snacks for the journey.
The rainforest can be hot and humid with frequent rain. Dress in lightweight, quick-drying layers and bring a waterproof poncho. Be prepared for sudden weather changes and keep your belongings in waterproof bags.
